Modern Farm House

Oh wow! Those were the first words that came out of my husband's mouth (a trained Architect with a refine taste) when he first visited this recently completed project.

Perched at the top of a hill you will find this beautiful modern farm house in Coldstream, BC. Coldstream is a small rural community that is 15 min from Downtown Vernon, this magical spot has become a very desirable location in the last years.

The proximity to the city center, schools and work makes it the ideal place, not to mention the amazing views of the Okanagan Valley, including Kalamalka and Okanagan Lake, this is truly a beautiful place to own a home.

Our clients home was not working for them and the dwelling needed a major update. Their wish list was simple: They wanted a Modern Farm House feel with an open concept, larger windows to capture those amazing views.- The view is the only thing we did not have to change!

The Exterior was dated and did not portray the Modern Farm House style they were after, in order to accomplish this we decided to modify the entry- by relocating the front door, we added new windows and replaced some of the existing, creating a shed roof and finishing the exterior off with some white board and batten the exterior was transformed.

The existing kitchen was small and dated so by taking over the garage as interior space, we moved the Kitchen over to the garage area and we couldn’t be happier. White Shaker cabinets with natural wood stained island and black accents is just what this house needed.

So what did we do with the space where the existing kitchen was located?

We converted it to an office with an amazing view!

The basement needed some work as well, we took an outdated bar and removed a wall to open it up to create a games room and wet bar that can host family and friends. Our clients were not afraid to add some colour so we went with navy coloured cabinets and champagne bronze cabinet hardware.
